The Brighter Side of High Unemployment Rates

September 21, 2009

Even in an often gloomy economy, you can always count on Governor Charlie Crist to see the brighter side.

In his statement on Florida’s latest unemployment figures, the Governor stated, “I am encouraged that Florida’s unemployment rate has dropped slightly,” referring to a .1 percent drop from July, which is not much of a decrease in the grand scheme of the economy. But, at least the Governor is optimistic.

Crist continued, “However, we must not forget that many Floridians are struggling as our economy recovers. For that reason, I continue to focus on the economy of our state by strengthening our business friendly environment.”

At 10.7%, Florida’s unemployment rate is up more than 4% from August 2008. Economists predict that Florida’s unemployment rate will peak at 11% in early 2010, preceding the state’s forecasted economic recovery next Spring.
