Joe Biden on Florida’s Rising Health Care Costs

September 23, 2009

JoeBidenIn a speech to a group of state insurance commissioners this morning, Vice President Joe Biden debuted a White House report on rising health care costs across the country.

On health insurance premiums in Florida, Biden specifically mentioned that “premiums increased 121 percent, while wages increased 43 percent.” The report shows that health insurance premiums in many states have risen between 90 and 150 percent over the last decade, much faster than wages and inflation.

Biden also pointed out that in Alaska premiums have increased 145 percent and wages grew 35 percent, while Michigan had the smallest gap — only 37 percent — between rising premiums and wages.
